Dear US EPA, NMFS & DRBC,
Thank you so much for your generous gifts of extinction for Mama Atlantic Sturgeon & her babies. Thanks to your lack of protections and failing actions, our Delaware River’s genetically unique population of Atlantic sturgeon are on the brink of extinction. You have provided gifts of ship strikes, habitat destruction, pollution, and failure to ensure oxygen levels sufficient for the sturgeon to propagate and thrive. As a result, less than 0.5% of the population remains.
We urge you to use your authority to provide real gifts of protection for the Delaware River’s Atlantic sturgeon: promulgate standards requiring 6.5 mg/l of dissolved oxygen, recognize them as being a distinct population on the brink of extinction, provide a sanctuary zone from vessel strikes, stop the pollution, habitat destruction and exacerbation of the climate crisis. If you don’t, the Delaware River Atlantic sturgeon may just have had their last baby shower.
On behalf of,
Mama Atlantic Sturgeon & her Babies
